Westinghouse 2025 Chain Reaction Contraption Contest

  • 21-Feb-2025
  • 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • Westinghouse Headquarters (1000 Westinghouse Drive, Cranberry Township, Pa., 16066)

Registration

  • Act as a liaison with the high school students participating in this contest.

Westinghouse is hosting their annual Chain Reaction Contraption Contest (CRCC) for regional high school teams on February 21, 2025. Westinghouse is requesting 16 SURE members to act as liaisons with the high school teams on the day of the competition. In addition, you can share your knowledge about your education and job paths as many of these students have interest in STEM-related careers.

About the contest

The CRCC gives local high school students the chance to design, build, engineer, and operate a Rube Goldberg wacky contraption (like the Mousetrap board game) that will perform an everyday task.  This year’s challenge is to Make a Sandwich!

SURE volunteer liaison role

Direct engagement with Westinghouse volunteers and students. Specifically:

  1. Each liaison would be assigned to a high school team or teams
    1. Your main role is engaging student teams during “down time” between competition presentations. This can include asking about their project and future studies; sharing your education and work experience with the students
    2. Additionally, you would be present and supportive of competition demonstrations for your team(s)
    3. You would also serve as a direct line of questioning to the CRCC Core Team as needed
    4. Lunch and a contest shirt will be provided to all volunteers

Register to Volunteer

After you register (by clicking the "Register Now" button in the announcement email or on the SURE website), you will also need to complete a Microsoft form on the Westinghouse Electric Company's website. The link to this form with instructions will be provided in the SURE confirmation email sent to you.

This will be a chance for those of us who worked at the Cranberry Township location to see what they have done with the place since we retired.

Please join us on Friday February 21 for what will SUREly be a memorable experience!
