Come join your fellow SURE members on Thursday, June 29, at 10 am for a guided tour of the Mitsubishi Electric Power Products circuit breaker facilities located at 547 Keystone Drive in the Thorn Hill Industrial Park, Warrendale, PA.

In December 1985, after Westinghouse closed the Trafford Power Circuit Breaker Division, a 50/50 joint venture was formed between Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and Westinghouse Electric Corporation to create WM Power Products, Inc. The purpose was to serve the North American market through Westinghouse field sales with Mitsubishi Electric design gas circuit breakers and gas insulated substations.

In 1989, as Westinghouse continued to divest of its electric utility businesses, the joint venture was ended and the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of Japan and changed its name to Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI). That same year MEPPI opened its new office and manufacturing plant in the Thorn Hill Industrial Park.  A number of previous Westinghouse employees joined the new company, including the first three Presidents/CEOs. In the following years MEPPI obtained additional office and manufacturing facilities and added new products and services to its portfolio.

Today, Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. serves the North American power systems, rail transportation, and large visual display markets with electrical and electronic products, systems and services. The products offered include gas circuit breakers, vacuum circuit breakers, power transformers, gas-insulated substations, power electronics for grid applications (including HVDC), battery energy storage systems, generator services, nuclear power plant control systems, uninterruptible power supplies, rail transportation on-board and wayside equipment, and high-definition LED displays for sports, commercial, and retail installations under the Diamond Vision brand.

For more information, see MEPPI’s web site www.meppi.com

Please note: This tour is limited to 30 SURE Members on a first come basis. Others will be placed on the wait list in order registered

We expect the presentation, tour and Q & A session to end about 1:30 pm. MEPPI is graciously hosting SURE members for lunch in their cafeteria.

Special Thanks to SURE member, and former MEPPI President/CEO, Roger Barna for arranging this tour.
