Come join your fellow SURE members on Wednesday, November 7, at the Heinz History Center located at 1212 Smallman Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 (phone: 412-454-6000) for an informative 90-minute guided tour of Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission, a commemoration of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the day Neil Armstrong became the first human to walk on the Moon. This historic journey of Apollo 11 met President Kennedy’s 1961 challenge of “landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the earth” before the end of the decade. Learn how Pittsburgh innovators and companies, including Westinghouse, used their “We Can Do It!” spirit to play a crucial role in the Apollo 11 mission, and discover how the region’s brightest minds continue to impact the space program today. The family-friendly exhibit will also feature an immersive “launchpad” entrance, the iconic audio from mission control, and interactives like a lunar lander video game and virtual 3-D tour of Columbia’s interior.
Your cost will be a $10.00 fee for the 90-minute guided tour which will begin at 10:30 am. All members are encouraged to attend. To register please click the button below. Spouses and significant others are welcome but must be registered. To register your spouse or a friend, indicate 1 under “Guest registration”.
There is no cost for current Heinz History Center members but they need to register so we have an accurate count for the tour and may register one guest at the $10.00 rate. However if your guest is also a Heinz History Center member, please register each name separately on the SURE website or contact Dave Altman at (724) 325-4491.
Although there is no limit on attendance, we need to close registration on November 2 to help the Heinz Center serve our group. For those who prefer to pay by check, please make your check payable to Westinghouse SURE and mail to Dave Altman at 1532 O’Block Road, Pittsburgh PA 15239.
There are a variety of parking lots and garages within walking distance of the History Center:
Please feel free to call Marsha Yerecic at (724) 309-1125 should you have any questions.
Please join us on November 7. See you there!
